The main goal of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning. Growing Success, Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools, acknowledges that assessment of learning is key to a student's engagement and success.
Report cards
Report cards occur at certain points in the school year. While communication about a student's learning and progress should happen on an ongoing basis via:
- phone calls;
- newsletters;
- websites; and
- student work.
Formal communication by report cards happens three times during a school year.
Parent Teacher conferences
Twice a year (once per semester), parents and guardians of secondary school students have an opportunity to meet teachers one-on-one to discuss their child's progress.
Provincial report cards
The Provincial report cards are sent home on the following dates:
- February 8, 2016; and
- June 28, 2016.
